In partnership with Housing Europe, we are hosting a technical workshop titled „The Role of Private Finance in Filling the Funding Gap for Affordable and Sustainable Housing in Europe“, bringing together Czech and international experts to explore and discuss our three main focus topics.

One of the main topics was the potential for developing long-term regional financial instruments for affordable housing. Participants shared experiences from different European countries and discussed how financial and institutional models can be designed to support long-term and efficient financing rather than individual, isolated projects. Attention was also given to the role of capital, guarantees, governance and the long-term sustainability of different models.

The second session focused on cooperation between the public and private sectors, particularly on the question of trust between the two sides. The discussion explored barriers that can make cooperation more difficult, as well as specific tools that can help reduce risks – including clear allocation of responsibilities, standardised contracts, transparent communication and the use of intermediary organisations.

The third thematic area addressed land development, planning and incentives for construction. Discussions focused on long-term approaches to spatial planning, access to reliable data and finding a balance between the interests of municipalities, developers and residents. The workshop concluded with a session on government guarantees as a tool to support housing development, including experiences from the Netherlands and other European countries.
